The Nigeria Police Force has officially suspended the nationwide enforcement of its tinted glass permit policy in light of an interim court order that restrains this move. Initially set to begin enforcement on January 2, 2026, the policy aimed to enhance public safety and internal security.
In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, it was revealed that the police were served with the interim order on December 17, 2025, pertaining to Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025. Consequently, the enforcement will remain paused until the substantive suit is heard or the court vacates the order.
The police confirmed their participation in the legal proceedings, having raised preliminary objections and formally sought the vacation of the interim order, with the case adjourned to January 20, 2026.
Regarding the court’s decision, the Nigeria Police Force emphasized their respect for judicial authority, stating, “In line with constitutional obligations, the Nigeria Police Force has placed the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold nationwide, pending the court’s decision.”
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun reiterated the Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while ensuring the protection of lives and property. The police assured the public that further information will be communicated following the court’s determination of the matter, emphasizing their ongoing duty to maintain public order and national security.
