The Nigeria Immigration Service has launched a major internal probe following allegations of widespread extortion involving officers stationed along the Lagos–Seme border corridor.

In a swift response, Comptroller General Kemi Nandap ordered the immediate suspension of the comptrollers in charge of the affected commands, clearing the way for a full and transparent investigation into the claims.

The allegations surfaced in online reports accusing immigration personnel of collecting illegal payments from travellers and traders along the busy border route.

In a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the agency said the conduct shown in the reports was unacceptable and directly opposed to the core values of the organisation.

He stressed that the leadership of the Immigration Service would not tolerate any behaviour that undermines public trust or damages the integrity of the institution.

According to the statement, the suspended officers will remain out of duty while investigators examine the allegations and identify all personnel involved.

The Service also warned that any officer found culpable will face strict disciplinary action without delay.

It further assured the public that it remains committed to professional border management and efficient service delivery at all entry and exit points across the country.

Citizens were encouraged to report misconduct through official hotlines and digital platforms as part of efforts to strengthen accountability within the system.
