The Niger State Government has announced the reopening of selected public and private schools starting Monday, January 12, 2026. This approval follows extensive security evaluations and discussions with relevant security agencies.

In a press statement issued by the Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Commissioner Hadiza Mohammed highlighted that this decision, authorized by Governor Umaru Bago, aims to ensure the continuity of education while prioritizing the safety of students, teachers, and school communities.

Only schools situated in secure areas will be permitted to resume academic activities. The government has committed to maintaining a strong security presence on and around school premises, working closely with security agencies to guarantee a safe learning environment.

To promote transparency, the ministry will release a list of all approved public and private schools on January 12. Schools that are cleared to reopen are required to register returning students and submit complete enrollment data to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education within one week of resuming.

Local Government Area Chairmen have also been tasked with ensuring compliance with these directives and providing necessary support within their jurisdictions.

The Niger State Government expressed gratitude to parents, school managers, and the general public for their patience and understanding during the school closure. They reaffirmed that the safety of students and teachers remains the highest priority, urging all stakeholders to adhere to the outlined directives for the collective well-being of the education community in the state.
