Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has announced her intention to return to the Senate on July 22, following a Federal High Court ruling that deemed her suspension excessive. The court ordered her recall, stating that the Senate’s interpretation of the ruling as advisory was incorrect.
Despite the Senate’s stance, Akpoti-Uduaghan insists that the court’s judgment is binding. In a letter from her legal counsel, she emphasized that the directive to recall her is mandatory, citing specific orders from the court that nullified her suspension.
The Senate had adjourned its plenary to July 22 due to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, allowing Akpoti-Uduaghan to confirm her plans to resume her legislative duties. Her legal team has urged the Senate to comply with the court’s directives, warning that they will pursue further legal action if necessary.
