Julius Abure, the factional chairman of the Labour Party (LP), recently held a closed-door meeting with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, at Wike’s residence in Abuja.
The specifics of their discussions are not yet known, but the timing is noteworthy. This meeting follows a public demand from Abure’s faction for Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, to leave the party due to his involvement in a new coalition with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Wike, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and currently serving in an APC-led federal cabinet, has been a contentious figure within his party, facing accusations from PDP loyalists of exacerbating internal conflicts and undermining opposition unity.
