The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party has suspended its former Chairman, Pastor Dayo Ekong, along with Sam Okpala, over allegations of gross misconduct and violations of the party’s constitution. This was announced in a statement signed by Rotimi Odunaike, Chairman of the Lagos State Caretaker Committee, following a committee meeting on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
According to the party, the suspension is for six months and is based on accusations that Ekong held two key positions simultaneously — State Chairman and National Financial Secretary — in breach of the party’s constitutional provisions. The statement also accused both suspended officials of anti-party activities.
In a sweeping move, the party dissolved all Local Government and Ward Executive Committees appointed by the Ekong-led executive and suspended their members for six months as well. The entire former state executive committee was also suspended for alleged failure to uphold party rules.
As of now, neither Ekong nor Okpala has responded publicly to the suspension
