Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), has said he will only consider aligning with another political party ahead of the 2027 general elections if offered either the presidential or vice-presidential slot.
Kwankwaso made the disclosure during a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his residence in Miller Road, Kano, addressing ongoing political realignments ahead of the next elections.
“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with, but it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot,” he said.
He also dismissed speculations that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf might defect from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing such reports as “nothing but a dream.”
The former Kano State governor criticised President Bola Tinubu’s style of politics, arguing that a party’s numerical strength does not guarantee electoral victory. According to Kwankwaso, credibility, popular support, and performance remain the key determinants of electoral outcomes.
His remarks have intensified discussions over potential alliances and political realignments ahead of the 2027 polls.
