The Kano State government has disbursed ₦7.4 million to families affected by the 2025 attack in Uromi, Edo State, fulfilling a pledge made by Governor Abba Yusuf. The payments were handed over at the palace of the district head of Bunkure.
According to Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, 16 families of deceased victims received ₦300,000 each, while 13 survivors were given ₦200,000 each. Additional support included food items such as two bags of rice per person.
The attack in 2025 left 16 people dead and 13 injured when a mob assaulted hunters from Kano who were returning home from Uromi, having been mistaken for kidnappers. Commissioner Waiya confirmed that steps are also being taken to ensure that compensation promised by the Edo State government is released, with a special account already opened for this purpose.
The district head of Bunkure, Alhaji Aminu Umar, expressed gratitude to the Kano State government for fulfilling its promise and prayed for peace in the state.
The government urged families to remain patient, reaffirming its commitment to supporting victims and ensuring justice.
