Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has renewed calls for the creation of an additional state in the South-East, suggesting a unified “Animoma” model.

Kalu made the proposal while hosting a delegation of the Anioma State Movement led by Ned Nwoko in Abuja. He explained that “Animoma” would combine Anambra, Imo, and the proposed Anioma area in Delta State to strengthen the case for state creation.

He stressed that achieving this would require collaboration between stakeholders in both the South-East and South-South regions, urging proponents of separate proposals to find common ground.

According to him, agreement among political leaders and communities is key, adding that issues such as location of the state capital and structure would be resolved through dialogue.

Kalu also assured that the push for an additional South-East state remains a priority, noting that factors like economic viability, cultural identity, and regional balance must be considered.
