The Kaduna State Government has issued a stern warning to former Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of attempting to incite violence and destabilize the state. In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu, the government expressed concern over what it described as El-Rufai’s “overt provocation and covert manipulation” following the defeat of his political allies in recent by-elections.
The government emphasized that the people of Kaduna have endured enough trauma and will not allow a former leader who left the state in turmoil to ignite further chaos. Dr. Shuaibu alleged that El-Rufai convened an “illegal and chaotic” political meeting that led to violence, including gunfire that endangered citizens. He questioned the motives behind El-Rufai’s claims that the current government was sponsoring thugs to disrupt his gathering.
Additionally, the government condemned El-Rufai’s recent comments on national television, where he accused authorities of bribing bandits. The statement called these allegations malicious lies intended to undermine security efforts and incite public anger.
Highlighting improvements in security and governance under Governor Uba Sani’s administration, the government contrasted this with El-Rufai’s alleged legacy of division. It warned that efforts to destabilize the state would not be tolerated and assured residents that security agencies were prepared to maintain order.
The statement concluded by affirming that the peace of Kaduna is non-negotiable and that anyone threatening it, including El-Rufai, will be held accountable.
