The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has flagged 9,469 fake admissions across 20 tertiary institutions in Nigeria for the 2024 academic session. These admissions were conducted outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), which aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the admission process. Kano State University of Science and Technology reported 2,215 admissions, followed by Ladoke Akintola University of Technology with 1,215. Gombe State University had 1,164 admissions, while Emmanuel Alayande University and Federal University of Technology, Owerri, also appeared on the list among others.

CAPS provides an online platform for prospective students to monitor and manage their admission status, ensuring fair consideration of candidates based on merit. The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, reiterated that all admissions conducted outside JAMB are illegal, warning of potential sanctions for involved institutions and individuals. JAMB continues to push for a more transparent admission process, emphasizing the need for adherence to established protocols.
