The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has claimed that the Nigerian government has hired a prosecution witness, referred to as PW-BBB, in the ongoing trial of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. They allege that this individual is not affiliated with the Department of State Services (DSS) and has ties to a law firm instead.

In a statement issued by their Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB noted that PW-BBB’s name was not included in the original list of prosecution witnesses provided to the defense. They argue that this last-minute addition constitutes “trial by ambush,” a serious prosecutorial misconduct.

IPOB urges Justice James Omotosho to recognize this situation and prevent such abuses from compromising the integrity of the courtroom. The statement condemned the government’s tactics, asserting that PW-BBB has been exposed as a government-influenced individual lacking any genuine connection to the DSS operations or Kanu’s unjust detention.

They further emphasized that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is subjected to solitary confinement, a common practice within DSS protocols, and that this condition is supported by independent reports and visits from UK Consular staff.

IPOB called for media outlets to avoid perpetuating state propaganda and emphasized their commitment to revealing the truth about PW-BBB’s identity and role in the case. They demand accountability from the Nigerian government and insist on Kanu’s unconditional release.
