The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the personal information of governorship and deputy governorship candidates from 16 political parties for the upcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, 2025. This announcement was made by Sam Olumekun, the INEC national commissioner and chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement issued in Abuja.
In his statement, Olumekun urged Nigerians to carefully scrutinize the published documents. He emphasized that if any individual believes that a candidate has provided false information, they have the right to challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court, as stipulated in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.
The publication follows the conclusion of party primaries, during which the candidates’ nomination forms were submitted by the deadline of May 12, 2025. The personal particulars of each candidate, along with their running mates, have been displayed at INEC’s state headquarters and across the 21 local government offices in Anambra State. This includes copies of Form EC9 and all accompanying academic credentials and documents submitted by the candidates.
Olumekun also noted that the final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025, which is in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, ensuring that it is at least 150 days before the election date.
This initiative by INEC aims to enhance transparency in the electoral process and encourage public participation in scrutinizing the qualifications of candidates.
