The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State. National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, stated that the extension comes in response to high turnout and public appeals.

As of July 16, a total of 96,085 new voters had been registered within just nine days, averaging over 10,600 registrations per day. INEC noted that the CVR in Anambra was set to conclude but has now been extended for an additional three days, ending on July 20, 2025.

The commission also reported that 12,595 voters applied for the transfer of their registration and 7,061 individuals requested updates or replacements of their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

INEC plans to display the register for claims and objections, followed by a data cleanup using the Automated Biometric Identification System. Preliminary figures show that 56,017 (58%) of new registrants are female, with 50,429 (52.48%) being young people aged 18 to 34.

Additionally, INEC has received five new letters of intent from groups aspiring to register as political parties, bringing the total to 134. Details of these new associations will be made available on INEC’s website and other platforms.
