The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the police have confirmed their readiness for the upcoming elections in Anambra State, which include the senatorial bye-election for Anambra South on August 16, 2025, and the governorship election on November 8, 2025.
The police are collaborating with other security agencies to ensure law and order before, during, and after the elections. Regular meetings are being held to analyze the security situation and fine-tune plans.
A Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is currently underway, specifically for the governorship election and not for the senatorial bye-election. The CVR will take place from July 8 to July 17, 2025, excluding Mondays, with registration hours set from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, including Saturdays. Fresh registrations must be completed physically at designated INEC offices, while data revalidation or corrections can be done online. Existing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be used for the August 16 bye-election.
INEC has configured 300 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) scanners for the November 8 governorship election. Arrangements have also been finalized with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for the deployment of corps members as ad hoc staff. INEC is collaborating with transport unions to provide logistics and has conducted sensitization programs for stakeholders as required by the Electoral Act.
Party primaries are scheduled to be held between July 17 and 21, 2025, with the online portal for submission of nomination forms open from July 22 to 26. Public campaigning for the senatorial bye-election will commence on August 2 and conclude at midnight on August 14, 2025. For the gubernatorial election, public campaigns began on June 11, 2025, and will end on November 6, 2025. Governor Chukwuma Soludo has advised aspirants of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to aim for a consensus candidate for the Anambra South senatorial bye-election.
INEC has published the final list of candidates for the governorship election, with sixteen political parties participating in the election.
