The Samuel Anyanwu faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has officially endorsed Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, as the national leader of the party. This endorsement followed a stakeholders’ meeting convened in Owerri, where the commitment to the PDP’s constitution and internal democracy was reaffirmed amid national tensions in the party.
During the meeting, State Chairman Austin Nwachukwu expressed confidence in Wike’s contributions to the party’s growth, noting his essential role in expanding its influence from controlling four states in 2015 to 16 states in later years. Wike was hailed as a stabilizing figure crucial for the party’s survival.
The Imo PDP also reaffirmed its support for Senator Anyanwu and other leadership figures, emphasizing their dedication to strengthening party structures. The meeting distanced itself from the recent convention in Ibadan, calling it unlawful and commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its boycott.
Nwachukwu urged party members to remain focused and united as they prepare for upcoming elections, reinforcing that the Imo PDP stands as an undivided entity despite ongoing internal disputes and expulsions from opposing factions.
