The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced plans to arraign former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, before a Federal High Court in Kaduna  Today, Tuesday.

According to the commission, the charges — filed on March 18 — include allegations of money laundering, as well as unlawful conversion and possession of public property.

In a statement issued on Monday, ICPC spokesperson John Okor Odey said El-Rufai will be arraigned alongside one Joel Adoga.

The commission also revealed that a separate case has been filed against the former governor at a Kaduna State High Court. That case involves allegations of abuse of office, fraud, and actions intended to confer undue advantage.

The date for the state court arraignment has not yet been fixed, but the ICPC said it will be announced in due course.

The anti-corruption agency confirmed that El-Rufai has already been served with the charges and reiterated its commitment to due process and the rule of law.

El-Rufai has remained in ICPC custody since February, following his earlier release by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

On March 5, a magistrate court granted a 14-day extension of his remand, extending his stay in detention beyond the initial order.

His continued detention has drawn criticism from some quarters, particularly opposition voices, who have called on authorities to either formally charge him or release him.

In response, El-Rufai has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, filing a suit to challenge both the search conducted at his residence by the ICPC and the legality of the remand order issued in February.

The suit lists several respondents, including the ICPC, the magistrate who approved his remand, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

The case adds another layer to the legal battle surrounding the former governor, as attention now shifts to Tuesday’s court proceedings in Kaduna.
