Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti has dismissed rumors about his defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Recent social media reports claimed that Otti had switched parties.
In a statement, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, labeled these rumors as fabrications generated by political propagandists unsettled by Otti’s effective governance and increasing popularity. Kanu emphasized that Otti remains a committed member of the Labour Party, the platform through which he was overwhelmingly elected by the people of Abia.
He stated, “Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party… His focus remains unshaken, to rebuild Abia, restore accountability, and deliver the dividends of democracy to every citizen of the state.”
Kanu reminded the public that Otti had recently expressed, during the October edition of “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” that his interests lie not in political maneuvering, but in serving humanity and transforming Abia State. He asserted that leadership, for Otti, is about impact rather than political convenience.
The Otti administration is committed to a vision centered on transparency, fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, economic growth, youth empowerment, and restoring public confidence in governance—values that align with the ideals of the Labour Party.
The Commissioner urged the public to disregard the false reports as cheap propaganda aimed at diverting attention from the progress being made in the state. He reassured Abians that Governor Otti remains focused on building a new Abia where truth, justice, and equity prevail under the Labour Party.
