Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, says growing pressure from family members, supporters and associates is making him reconsider contesting the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Politics Today, Sule noted that although he had previously ruled out a Senate bid, the calls for him to run have become overwhelming.
He said he has remained consistent with his decisions throughout his time in office, adding that any reconsideration would reflect the weight of the appeals made to him.
The governor dismissed claims that he is following the path of former governors who move to the Senate after completing their tenure, stressing that he does not need a senatorial position to remain relevant.
Sule highlighted his career before becoming governor in 2019, including roles in the corporate sector such as at Dangote Sugar Refinery PLC and African Petroleum, where he said he built his reputation.
He also pointed to his current position as Chairman of the North-Central Governors’ Forum.
Sule, who will complete his tenure in May 2027, said he does not yet know who will succeed him but noted that several qualified individuals are available in the state.
On national issues, he said governors have been frank with President Bola Tinubu about the country’s challenges and reiterated his support for the creation of state police.
He also downplayed the chances of the African Democratic Congress, saying the ruling All Progressives Congress has no reason to be worried.
