President Bola Tinubu has said that fuel prices in Nigeria remain lower than those in Kenya and several other African countries.

He made the remark on Thursday during a visit to Yenagoa for the commissioning of projects.

Tinubu acknowledged the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, particularly the rising cost of fuel, noting that he is aware of the hardship being experienced across the country.

He, however, maintained that despite the challenges, Nigeria is still better off compared to some countries on the continent.

“Yes, I hear you on the economy; the fuel prices are biting hard,” he said. “But let us also be thankful that we are better off than those in Kenya and other African countries.”

Data indicates that fuel in Kenya stood at about $1.37 per litre as of April 2026, equivalent to roughly N1,862.

In Nigeria, fuel prices have risen sharply in recent weeks, ranging between N1,290 and N1,350 per litre, amid global oil market volatility.

The surge has been linked to rising crude oil prices, which have hovered between $95 and $100 per barrel, as well as adjustments by petroleum marketers, depot owners and refineries to reflect international market conditions.
