The Federal Government has successfully repatriated 153 Nigerians stranded in Chad through the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Programme, facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The returnees arrived at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on October 27, 2025, aboard an AS-SKY Airlines flight. The group consisted of 105 adults (63 males and 42 females), 45 children (25 males and 20 females), and 3 infants (all females).

Upon their arrival, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) coordinated the reception, in collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), which conducted biometric registration and documentation for the returnees. This process is intended to facilitate their smooth reintegration into Nigeria.

NEMA provided immediate humanitarian assistance, including food, potable water, medical care, and logistics support. The exercise underscored the government’s commitment to the safe and dignified return of its citizens.

The repatriation initiative reflects ongoing efforts by NEMA, IOM, and other stakeholders to prioritize the welfare and dignity of Nigerians returning from abroad.
