The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared April 3 and April 6, 2026, as public holidays in observance of the Easter celebrations.

The declaration was made on behalf of the government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the minister extended congratulations to Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora, urging them to reflect on the core values associated with the Easter season, including selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance, and love, as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

The government further encouraged citizens to uphold national unity by embracing tolerance and community spirit. It reiterated its commitment to policies aimed at fostering national renewal, economic development, and shared prosperity.

April 3 corresponds with Good Friday, while April 6 marks Easter Monday—both significant dates within the Christian liturgical calendar commemorating the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
