The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has assured residents of Abuja of the availability of antivenom across public hospitals to effectively manage snakebite cases.

Health authorities in the FCT disclosed that government hospitals have been adequately stocked with antivenom and that medical personnel have been trained to respond promptly to snakebite emergencies, particularly during periods when such incidents are more common.

Officials explained that the assurance forms part of ongoing efforts by the FCTA to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery and reduce fatalities associated with snake envenomation. Residents were encouraged to seek immediate medical attention at public hospitals rather than resorting to traditional remedies, which experts warn could worsen complications.

The administration also reaffirmed its commitment to continuous monitoring of medical supplies to ensure that essential lifesaving drugs, including antivenom, remain accessible in all government-owned health facilities within the FCT.

Health practitioners further advised residents to take preventive measures, especially in areas prone to snake activity, while emphasizing that early hospital presentation significantly improves treatment outcomes.
