The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Abia State branch has condemned a shocking incident of domestic violence in Onicha Ngwa, Obingwa Local Government Area. A father, Mr. Udochi Amala, allegedly set himself, his wife Amarachi, and their three children on fire due to suspicions of infidelity.

The tragic event occurred between 1 AM and 2 AM on Saturday. Udochi, 40, reportedly ignited the flames before attempting to flee but was apprehended. One of their daughters succumbed to severe burns, while reports indicate that Amarachi and two other children died later while receiving treatment.

Udochi claimed he had issues with his wife but had not caught her with another man. “I am tired of this life,” he stated, reflecting on the severity of the situation.

The Abia State Police, represented by DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that an investigation is underway.

FIDA Abia expressed its outrage and concern over this horrific act, calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the victims. The organization emphasized the need for support and protection for survivors of domestic violence and urged the public to report such cases to protect vulnerable individuals.

This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for increased awareness and action against domestic violence and child abuse in the community.
