Former members of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) have issued a warning to President Bola Tinubu, stating they will leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) unless the vice-presidential position is retained for their bloc. At a press conference in Abuja, the aggrieved members expressed their concerns about marginalization within the party, citing a history of exclusion from key positions since the merger that formed the APC in 2015.
National Coordinator Prof. Vitalis Ajumbe emphasized that the vice-presidential slot is crucial for the ANPP bloc, which he claims is the second-largest contributor to the party’s formation. He criticized the previous administration under former President Muhammadu Buhari for neglecting the ANPP bloc and warned that failure to address these grievances could lead them to seek other political affiliations.
In response, APC Deputy National Organising Secretary Nze Duru expressed disappointment over the threats, asserting that such tactics do not align with democratic principles. He reiterated that the decision regarding the vice-presidential candidate ultimately rests with President Tinubu, reflecting the prerogatives outlined in the APC constitution.
