The Progressive Group, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed a willingness to welcome Enugu State Governor Barr. Peter Mbah, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), into their party if he chooses to join.

Dr. Ben Nwoye, a former chairman of the party in the state, made this statement during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Enugu over the weekend. He dismissed claims that the suspended state chairman, Ugo Agbala, and Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, could obstruct Governor Mbah’s entry into the APC.

Nwoye emphasized that the Progressive Group consists of APC members in Enugu State, along with some apolitical individuals and members of other parties, all committed to the betterment of the state and country. He stated they would readily welcome Mbah into the APC.

He noted that Agbala has been suspended by his ward, and a court order has barred him and nine others from representing themselves as chairman and members. Nwoye also remarked that the minister is not in a position to speak for the APC.

Recalling President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Enugu on February 4, Nwoye mentioned that the president encouraged support for Mbah, regardless of party affiliation. He added, “One of the motions we passed was to receive Governor Mbah into the APC if he decides to join and to support his re-election bid in 2027, in line with the president’s directive.”

Nwoye commended President Tinubu for signing into law the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture in Enugu State and appointing an indigene as Chief of Naval Staff. He praised the president’s impactful use of subsidy savings in the state and expressed hope that Enugu would reciprocate by supporting his re-election in 2027.

He also applauded Governor Mbah for his quality leadership and inclusive governance, urging him to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
