The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has detained former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), after he failed to satisfy the bail conditions earlier granted to him. A senior official of the agency confirmed that Malami will remain in custody until he complies with the required terms.

Another official disclosed that Malami is under investigation for a wide range of alleged offences. According to the source, the former minister is being probed for 18 suspected infractions, including money laundering, abuse of office, and terrorism financing. The official added that investigators are still uncovering additional transactions and have not yet determined the full extent of the sums involved.

The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, was yet to comment on the matter at the time of reporting.

Malami had previously acknowledged being questioned by the commission on November 29, describing the interaction as satisfactory. In a statement shared on X, he insisted that the allegations against him were fabricated and expressed confidence that the truth would emerge as the investigation continued.
