A heated confrontation occurred on Tuesday between Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and a military officer regarding alleged land grabbing in Gaduwa District, Abuja.
In a video of the altercation, Wike accused the military officer of illegally claiming a parcel of land associated with a former Chief of Naval Staff. The minister expressed his anger, questioning the legality of the military’s claim: “Because you are an officer? Nobody does that. The man took land because he was the Chief of Naval Staff?”
The military officer, in response, insisted that the acquisition was lawful, stating: “I am an officer with integrity. Everything was acquired legally.” As tensions escalated, Wike branded the officer a “very big fool,” emphasizing his authority and experience, while the officer maintained that he was acting on official orders.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about land disputes and illegal land acquisitions in Abuja. Wike has been actively addressing unauthorized land deals and illegal property developments since taking office in August 2023.
As of now, neither the military nor the Federal Capital Territory Administration has issued an official statement regarding the incident.
