The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed as false claims regarding a coup attempt linked to the cancellation of Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary activities. In a statement, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau emphasized that the reports are misleading and intended to incite tension among the public.
The DHQ clarified that the cancellation was due to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu attending a strategic bilateral meeting abroad and to maintain focus on ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and insurgency.
Additionally, the DHQ addressed the recent investigation into 16 officers for professional misconduct, reiterating that it is a standard internal procedure to uphold discipline within the Armed Forces. The DHQ reassured citizens of its loyalty to the Constitution and urged the public to disregard the misinformation being circulated.
