Court sitting in Abuja has stopped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its planned national convention scheduled for this weekend.
The court issued the restraining order following a suit filed by concerned party members who alleged that the proposed convention breached key provisions of Nigeria’s Electoral Act and the PDP Constitution.
Justice Deborah Musa, who presided over the case, ruled that the convention should not hold until all legal questions surrounding the party’s internal processes are resolved.
The ruling has thrown the opposition party into uncertainty, as preparations for the convention were already at an advanced stage. Party officials are yet to issue an official statement on the development.
