A Kano State High Court has confirmed the appointment of Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as the Acting State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State. The court’s ruling also upheld the suspension of the former State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, prohibiting him from interfering in the party’s affairs until the main case is resolved.
The judge has set January 19 for the hearing of the lawsuit filed by the NNPP Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee against Dungurawa. This legal challenge arose due to Dungurawa’s continued claim to the chairmanship following his suspension by the party’s state executive.
In an emergency meeting held at the party secretariat in Kano, the Kano State Executive Committee confirmed Abiya’s appointment as Acting State Chairman, citing the necessity of this decision after Dungurawa’s removal from office. Dungurawa, known for his alignment with the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has been ordered by the court to maintain the status quo. He is restricted from presenting himself as chairman or taking any actions that could disrupt the party’s operations in Kano State until the case is heard and determined.
