The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bauchi announced the death of Kani Ben, a cameraman with Channels Television, who passed away nine days following a motor accident. The NUJ State Chairman, Umar Said, expressed deep sorrow over the incident during a press briefing.
Mr. Ben had been covering project commissioning activities involving the North-East Development Commission when the accident occurred. He sustained serious injuries while on official duty and succumbed to them at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed offered condolences to Mr. Ben’s family, describing the loss as painful and heartbreaking. He praised the dedication and courage that Mr. Ben demonstrated throughout his career, emphasizing that he remained committed to his role as a journalist until the end.
The governor’s statement highlighted the importance of journalists who risk their lives for the public good, and he reassured the media community of the state’s continued support.
