The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have arrived at Umar Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina State. President Bola Tinubu led a delegation to receive the body, which was transported by a Nigerian Air Force aircraft.
The body departed London and is en route to Daura, Buhari’s hometown, ahead of a state burial. In attendance at the airport were governors, ministers, National Assembly members, and other officials.
Following the arrival, a brief military ceremony will take place before the body is moved to Daura for the Jana’iza (funeral prayer) and interment at Buhari’s residence.
Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, announced that condolence registers would be opened in Federal Ministries and Nigerian embassies worldwide as a part of national mourning. An Inter-Ministerial Committee has also been established to ensure a dignified burial process, with 25 members of the Federal Executive Council directed to attend the burial rites and subsequent prayers.
World leaders have begun sending condolences, reflecting Buhari’s global stature and legacy.
