The Senate has convened in a closed session to deliberate on President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State, which includes the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other elected officials. This session was prompted by a letter from President Tinubu, which was presented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary.

Senate leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved for the closed session under Order 135 of the Senate rules, with the motion seconded by the Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro.

As discussions proceed behind closed doors, the implications of the emergency rule are expected to be a central focus, particularly regarding its impact on governance and democracy in Rivers State.

Further details on the session and its outcomes will be provided shortly.
