Senegal have lost their Africa Cup of Nations crown after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) overturned the result of the final and awarded the title to Morocco.
The final, played in January, had originally ended 1-0 in favour of Senegal. However, the match was marred by controversy after Senegalese players walked off the pitch late in the game to protest a penalty decision awarded to Morocco.
The protest followed instructions from head coach Pape Thiaw, leading to a disruption in the final moments of the match.
In a fresh ruling, CAF’s Appeal Board held that the action amounted to a forfeiture under its regulations. The governing body consequently awarded the match to Morocco with a 3-0 scoreline.
The decision effectively cancels Senegal’s victory and confirms Morocco as winners of the 2025 AFCON tournament.
