Barely hours after President Bola Tinubu visited Jos to reassure residents, violence has erupted again in Plateau State, casting doubt on promises of restored peace.

In a shocking early morning assault, suspected terrorists stormed the Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area, killing 51-year-old Dalyop Betobeje in what local leaders have described as a brazen challenge to ongoing peace efforts.

The attack, which occurred around 6:56 a.m., has intensified fears across the state, coming just days after deadly violence rocked nearby communities.

Earlier, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen struck in Heipang District of Bassa LGA, where a secondary school student, Gloria Godwin, was killed, several others injured, and homes destroyed—further underscoring the relentless wave of attacks gripping Plateau.

Security agencies have launched investigations and are reportedly tracking the perpetrators, but community leaders say enough is enough. The Berom Youth Moulders Association condemned the killings as “brutal and senseless,” demanding swift justice and stronger protection for vulnerable communities.

“This is a direct affront,” local voices warn, urging authorities to match promises with decisive action as residents grapple with fear and uncertainty.

The renewed violence comes despite Tinubu’s assurance during his visit that such attacks “will not repeat themselves”—a pledge now under intense scrutiny as Plateau once again bleeds.
