Bandits Kill Three Police Officers, Injure Two in Ambush

At least three police officers were killed, and two others sustained injuries in an ambush launched by suspected armed bandits in Katsina State. The tragic incident occurred on January 27, 2026, at approximately 12:44 p.m. while the police team was on a routine anti-crime patrol along Guga Village in the Bakori Local Government Area.

The officers, identified as ASP Abubakar Ibrahim, Insp Umar Ahmad, and Sgt Khailani Kabir, were responding to reports of an impending attack by hoodlums when they came under fire. The wounded officers, Cpl Abdul’aziz Sani and Cpl Daniel Japhet, were immediately transported to the nearest hospital and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the fatalities and stated that investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
