At least 13 worshippers were killed in an attack by gunmen on the Unguwan Mantau Community in the Malumfashi local government area of Katsina State. The attack occurred during early morning (Fajr) prayers on Tuesday when the gunmen stormed the mosque and opened fire on worshippers.
Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, described the assault as a reprisal attack by criminal elements, following a confrontation two days prior where residents ambushed the bandits, rescued abducted victims from Ruwan Sanyi village, and recovered three motorcycles and two AK-47 rifles.
Security forces, including the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police, have been deployed to track down the perpetrators. The government has commended the community’s courage and assured them of full support, extending condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace.
