KANO, Nigeria — In a late-night raid on Biresawa village in the Tsanyawa Local Government Area, at least eight people were kidnapped by heavily armed bandits. The attack occurred between 11 PM and midnight on November 25, leaving the community in fear and uncertainty.
Locals report that two males and six females were taken, with one victim’s relative recounting the traumatic event as bandits approached from the neighbouring Tsundu village armed with guns. Despite prior alerts to the police and military regarding unusual movements, the community was unable to prevent the abduction.
Other areas, including Sarmawa and Yan Chibi, also experienced attacks, with reports of around 50 bandits on motorcycles storming the region. Residents described a climate of fear, with many choosing not to sleep in their homes at night following recent abductions.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact number of victims.
This latest attack highlights the rising insecurity in northern Nigeria, which has seen a series of kidnappings and assaults in recent weeks. Various states have closed schools as a precautionary measure, with the Federal Government taking steps to enhance security in affected areas.
President Tinubu has ordered increased security measures, including expanded surveillance, to combat the escalating threat posed by armed groups.
