The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has refuted claims that bandit leader Bello Turji has surrendered to the military. Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, made this announcement during a briefing in Abuja.
Bello Turji is a notorious bandit leader primarily active in Zamfara and Sokoto states, where he has been implicated in numerous attacks on communities in the North-West.
Recent reports suggested that Turji had surrendered his weapons and released 32 kidnapped victims following a peace initiative facilitated by Islamic clerics in Zamfara State. However, the DHQ’s statement contradicts these reports.
