The Court of Appeal in Abuja has struck out two motions filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, imposing a cost of ₦100,000 against him. This decision was made by a three-member panel led by Justice Hamman Barka on May 21, 2025, following Akpabio’s request to withdraw the appeal.
The motions, dated March 3 and March 25, 2025, sought to extend the time for Akpabio to appeal a Federal High Court decision involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and other parties. Akpabio was appealing the ruling from a case regarding the Clerk of the National Assembly and the Senate Committee on Ethics.
In the appeal, Akpabio requested several reliefs, including an order allowing him to appeal the Federal High Court’s decision and a stay of proceedings in the ongoing case. The Court of Appeal granted the application to withdraw the motions and imposed costs on Akpabio.
The ruling emphasized the need for adherence to procedural requirements and highlighted the court’s commitment to maintaining legal integrity.
