A former Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority, Dr George Muoghalu, has vowed to tackle insecurity and restore peoples’ confidence, if elected Anambra governor in 2025.
Muoghalu stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja.
The former director-general, while responding to a question on the high rate of insecurity, cult-related killings and kidnappings in Anambra, described the situation as a sign of failure of the incumbent government and lack of peoples’ confidence.
According to him, the primary role of government is the security of lives and property of the people, saying should it fail in this regard, it means the people no longer have confidence in it.
“One thing I can assure you is that my first responsibility is to restore the confidence of the people in their government, because there is total loss of confidence now.
“The average person on the street doesn’t believe again in the political class. They don’t believe that the solution to their problems lays with the government and that is a very big problem.
“I’m coming prepared; I’m coming experienced; I’m coming knowledgeable about what it takes to be able to actualise this ambition and be able to serve the people.
“I am fully prepared. If I am going to be chosen, by the grace of God and the will of the people, I’m going to change the narrative,’’ he said.
Muoghalu expressed concerns about the state of insecurity in Anambra, describing it as worrisome.
He added that measures must be put in place to immediately address the situation.
He said that government could not continue to ignore the challenge, as it was affecting the people and state’s economy.
“The principal responsibility of government is to provide security for the lives and property of the citizens.
“When government fails to do this, the implication is that the government has failed and it is very worrisome.
“So something has to be done about it, because it is impacting negatively on the economy.
“You cannot talk about investments, foreign direct investments in an insecure environment, because no sane person will come to invest in an insecure environment,’’ he said.
