Former Minister of Transport and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has vowed to halt President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027. He accused the President of being indifferent to the welfare of Nigerians and urged the public to register for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), his new party, to bring about change.

Amaechi made this statement while addressing supporters at the Port Harcourt International Airport upon his return to the state. He officially announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his full commitment to a coalition aimed at ousting Tinubu.

The coalition includes prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and others. At the rally, Amaechi emphasized the need to end what he described as Tinubu’s poor governance, which he claims has caused significant hardship for the populace.

He encouraged Rivers residents to join the ADC, stating, “Every Rivers man who thinks well of the state and the country should move to register with the new party and ensure we remove the current government.”

Regarding the ADC’s presidential ticket for 2027, Amaechi expressed that all contenders would support the candidate who emerges from a fair and transparent primary process. He stressed his dissatisfaction with the current administration, highlighting the struggles of everyday citizens amid rising living costs.

Amaechi also made it clear that he would not collaborate with those involved in election malpractices, insisting on integrity in the electoral process. After the rally, he walked several kilometers from the Waterlines area to his residence, receiving cheers from local residents
