Former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has stated that he believes he can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election if he secures the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket.
Amaechi made these remarks during an X Space session called “Weekend Politics.” He vowed to end corruption in Nigeria within one month if he becomes president, or he would resign. He also pledged sweeping reforms if elected, including changing the constitution and replacing the indigeneship system with citizenship rights.
Amaechi accused powerful figures of stealing public funds from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and said that these funds, if properly utilized, could solve the country’s security and economic crises. He also promised to channel savings from fuel subsidy removal directly to ordinary Nigerians rather than the elite.
Amaechi claimed to have never participated in election rigging and has consistently turned down appointments to serve on APC election planning committees. He challenged anyone to produce evidence of his involvement in rigging, stating that he would apologize if proven wrong.
Amaechi admitted that Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, won in Rivers State during the 2023 election but claimed the results were altered. He said he did not know how the results were changed.
