The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled the trial of suspended senator Natasha Akpoti-Udaughan for September 22, 2025, in a cybercrime case against her. This follows her arraignment on six counts related to alleged cybercrime, to which she pleaded not guilty.

Akpoti-Udaughan was granted bail on self-recognition after her arraignment before Justice Mohammed Umar. The charges, filed by the Director of Public Prosecution, involve allegations that she made false statements against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, claiming they conspired to harm her.

The prosecution contends that Akpoti-Udaughan transmitted false information through electronic means, intending to incite unrest and breach public order, in violation of the Cybercrimes Act.

Previously, on June 19, Akpoti-Udaughan faced similar defamation charges in the Federal Capital Territory High Court, where she also pleaded not guilty.

During the recent court proceedings, her legal team requested bail on self-recognition, citing her status as a senator and assuring the court that she posed no flight risk. Justice Umar noted that the charges were bailable and granted her bail on those terms.
