Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted claims that he recently filed a defamation suit worth ₦200 billion against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio described the claims as “false” and “misleading.”
Udom clarified that the suit had been filed over three months ago and its progression had faced delays due to standard administrative processes. He stated that failed attempts to serve Akpoti-Uduaghan with the court documents were due to her alleged evasion of service. As a result, the court granted a request for substituted service in November.
Akpabio emphasized that legal disputes should be resolved in court rather than through social media campaigns. He urged Akpoti-Uduaghan to present any evidence she claims to have in a competent court instead of relying on sensationalism to garner public sympathy.
The ongoing legal battle has underscored the tension between the two senators, with Akpabio calling for proper adherence to judicial procedures rather than emotional appeals.
