The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu for his failure to appoint ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions, warning that this delay is damaging the country’s global image and weakening international relations. In a statement released by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC expressed concern that Nigeria has been without ambassadors for over two years.

The party described the situation as “embarrassing,” noting that the absence of ambassadors since Tinubu recalled all 109 ambassadors in 2023 has left Nigeria without proper representation at critical global forums. This lack of high-level diplomats has reportedly worsened visa and consular issues with countries like the United States and the United Arab Emirates.

Abdullahi emphasized that lower-ranking diplomats cannot adequately represent Nigeria’s interests, warning that continued inaction could lead to other countries downgrading their diplomatic ties with Nigeria. The ADC also criticized the government’s handling of a recent diplomatic incident involving a U.S. request regarding deported Venezuelans, calling the foreign affairs minister’s public response careless.

The ADC urged President Tinubu to appoint ambassadors immediately to protect Nigeria’s interests and reputation abroad, warning that failure to act could further damage the country’s foreign policy.
