The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a woman in Umuahia for allegedly stabbing her husband, an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, to death following a domestic dispute.
The State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, said the suspect was promptly taken into custody and is currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department over a case of murder.
The deceased, identified as Chidiebere James, was serving with the Abia State Command of the Immigration Service. The incident reportedly occurred in Umuihi, Umuogba Ekeoba, in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area.
According to an eyewitness and family source, the altercation began on Sunday after a heated argument over their sick child and financial issues relating to medical treatment. The situation allegedly escalated after the wife accused her husband of infidelity, claiming to have discovered incriminating messages on his phone.
Though family members initially intervened to calm tensions, reports indicate that another confrontation erupted in the early hours of Monday. During the renewed quarrel, both parties allegedly damaged each other’s phones, after which the woman reportedly picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed her husband. He was later confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.
The traditional ruler of Ekeoba Ancient Kingdom, Iheanyi Nwokenna, confirmed being informed of the incident. The development has thrown the community into mourning, with residents expressing concern over rising cases of domestic violence. Police say investigations are ongoing.
