The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Working Committee in Abia State has expelled former Senate President Adolphus Wabara from the party, citing his endorsement of Governor Alex Otti for a second term as an act of disloyalty. The decision was made during an emergency meeting following the Disciplinary Committee’s report.
The expulsion comes shortly after Wabara’s initial suspension for alleged anti-party activities was nullified by the National Working Committee. Despite challenging the suspension in court, the Abia PDP has moved forward with Wabara’s expulsion, emphasizing the need to uphold party discipline.
In a statement, the Abia PDP reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining unity and respect for party structures, declaring, “No member, regardless of status, is above the party’s rules and regulations.” The party has called for the swift appointment of an acting chairman for the PDP Board of Trustees to ensure stability.
Meanwhile, the ongoing crisis within the PDP has escalated as former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom and factional National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu failed to attend a meeting of the National Disciplinary Committee led by Tom Ikimi. Ortom was represented by his legal adviser, while Anyanwu cited ongoing legal matters related to his position.
The absence of key figures has left the party in a precarious state, with allegations of misconduct and threats of violence being levied against Anyanwu. Members of the PDP Young Generation Caucus have called for his resignation, claiming his actions have brought disrepute to the party.
As the internal conflicts persist, the National Disciplinary Committee has adjourned its sessions, highlighting the need for resolution to restore order within the party. The political landscape remains uncertain as the PDP grapples with leadership challenges and calls for accountability among its members.
