The Lagos State Government has announced the integration of residents’ National Identification Numbers (NIN) into the Lagos State Single Social Register as part of the National Social Register, aimed at facilitating cash transfers to vulnerable households.
Ope George, the state Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, made this announcement during a press conference in Alausa, Ikeja, revealing that 130,000 heads of households have been linked to the register.
This initiative was prompted by the need to address the current hardships caused by the forex window collapse, the removal of fuel subsidies, and the planned relief grants. George stated, “The Federal Government has mandated that households on the national register must be updated, particularly with their NIN and geographic locations.”
The state has successfully linked the NINs of 130,000 heads of households out of a total of 688,759 on its social register in preparation for a cash transfer of N75,000 from the Federal Government.
The enrollment process began on April 9, 2025, across all 57 local government and local council development areas. In less than a month, the Social Protection and Community Development (SPCD) teams, with local support, have updated over 130,000 heads of households by ensuring their NINs are linked to the Lagos State Single Social Register in 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs.
According to ministry data, Ikorodu leads with 16,418 linked households, followed by Alimosho with 14,964, and Mushin with 10,712.
